Heads-up: Key plot points for the third episode of the new season follow below.
The Soldiers Table Unveiled
The third episode concluded with a major cliffhanger and introduced the premier party of heroes who will branch out from the main group to embark on their independent quest, apart from the remaining groups.
The Soldiers table features Teor (played by Travis Willingham), the nimble rogue (Laura Bailey), the fierce warrior (Whitney Moore), Wicander (Sam), and Kattigan (Robbie).
Why Split the Party?
With 13 cast members, it was obvious from the outset that keeping everyone at a single group would be unworkable.
That’s why, the first four episodes of Campaign 4 serve as an Prelude, intertwining the characters’ stories before splitting into three smaller tables: Fighters, Strategists, and Questers.
Characteristics of the Combat Party
According to the Dungeon Master, the Soldiers table is for participants who are drawn to a classically intense battle-oriented narrative style where diplomatic options are few and far between.
Upon first impression, figures such as the hesitant healer Wicander Halovar might look unsuited, but the actions of the third episode show why these five characters are best suited for the Soldiers table.
Reasons to Leave
To begin with, the group knows exactly where to go next after a intense first encounter with the antagonists.
Casimir of Thjazi—whose passing started the campaign’s events—exploited the foes for his selfish purposes, invading Thjazi’s hideout, assaulting the rogue, and taking all the powerful objects to sell off.
Casimir then paid off his liabilities and fled to a Halovar stronghouse in Gormalay, Timmony, above Dol-Makjar, with Teor’s brother close behind.
Individual Reasons
Additionally, each member has a specific drive to exit Dol-Makjar:
- The agile hero, as the companion and closest confidant, seeks revenge.
- The adventurer is familiar with the northern area and warns that it is a dangerous place.
- The strong character and The healer, having defied his house’s orders to execute Teor and instead freed him, have no other options.
- Yet, their position as key figures in the influential clan could assist the group reach places they normally couldn’t.
- Moreover, Teor pledged a eternal obligation to The cleric for his deliverance and will now accompany him anywhere.
Wanted and Hunted
Finally, all of them are hunted by the powers that govern Dol-Makjar for a multiple motives, making remaining behind no longer safe:
- The rogue and The hero are recognized lawbreakers.
- The strong figure and Wicander defied House Halovar and the legion of demons they are partnered with.
- The target is targeted for elimination by the clan.
This means them no alternative but to travel to Timmony in search of Casimir.
